A Fundraising Suggestion
One of the challenges of planning a fundraiser is to add an incentive gift to the ticket purchase that will create significant value for your contributors while increasing the event’s bottom line revenue. The gift should be something people will be delighted to receive, and will refer to long after the event — such as a desired book, personally autographed by the author.
When you engage Sally Wiener Grotta to speak at your fundraiser, you have the option of purchasing (for wholesale) either hardcover or trade paperback copies of her novels — Jo Joe or The Winter Boy — for the projected number of event attendees,. After her presentation at your event, Sally will meet with attendees and autograph the book.
Though you’ll be paying a wholesale price (which is generally 29 to 35% off retail, depending on the book and the number of copies), contributors will perceive that they are receiving a value equal to the full retail price. That, in turn, makes contributors feel that they are spending less on attending the event.
Incidentally, the only risk to you would be the cost of shipping the books. Books returned in original condition are fully refundable.
